Mansfield Reads! An Evening with the Author April 19, 2013 6:00PM Thanks to everyone who attended the 10th Annual Evening with the Author with Glenn Dromgoole. The evening started with dinner catered by Savvy's, and  beautiful, soothing harp music performed by Blue April. Flowers were donated by Flowers Etc. After dinner Mr Dromgoole entertained the great crowd with  humorous stories about his writing career, followed by dessert and book signing. News Flash!!! The friends of the Mansfield Public Library have won a National friends of Libraries Week Award from United for Libraries, ALTAFF, a division of ALA, for their "gnominating campaign" in October of 2012. You can visit the Friends Awards page to read about other awards the friends have won over the years, for their relentless efforts on behalf of the Mansfield Public library. Our Mission: The Friends of the Mansfield Public Library is a group of volunteers who actively support the library and its mission through fundraising, promotion, and advocacy. Joining the Friends is a great way to support your local library and to make a difference in your community. To provide financial support for the library, the Friends operate an ongoing used book sale, which raises thousands of dollars each year.  The Friends also offer durable canvas book bags in two sizes, plastic book bags, electronic time-keeping bookmarks, and "Really Big Coloring Books" for sale in the library.  Check out our "Friends Store" page for more information on these items.  If you have used, recently published books, you can donate them to our used book sale and receive a tax deduction!  Just bring your used books to the circulation desk at the library.  The Friends also put on the fantastic "Mansfield Reads!" program each year, in which a renowned author visits our city to discuss the particular book chosen for that year's program.  Different exciting events are scheduled each year to tie in with the book's theme.  A Friday night "Author Event" is scheduled in which the public is invited to meet the author face-to-face.  Previous Reads! authors include well-known, award-winning writers Robert Olen Butler, Paul Boller, Elmer Kelton, JA Jance, H.G. "Buzz" Bissinger, and Tim Madigan.  The Friends also hosts a "Mansfield Writes!" each fall in which a panel of popular local authors share writing tips with an audience of aspiring writers.  See our Mansfield Reads! and Mansfield Writes! pages for more details.
